I would love to have a home lab. But tbh I would never use server hardware. Much more comfortable with consumer hardware, and those can actually be silent and reasonable. I think I rather have redundant multiple nodes than use server hardware lol

What I don't get is: Why not use an enterprise solution like PureStorage? I get that in the end it's content… but the amount of time spent building and maintaining those set-ups are just not sustainable.

Next time use U.2 or U.3 to M.2 adapter carrier trays and PCI-E adapters for them. With the number of drives you will need to up to a 8U server case with TONS of wasted space. However, I am sure you can figure out how to use the space.

'consumer ssd' BIG MISTAKE. For a server that gets as much work as yours, you need more longevity than that. Its useful to have flexibility in case of emergency but you need buisness class drives.
