  1. My daughter said to tone down the dad jokes… it’s a parent she doesn’t get it.

  2. I have super crowded wifi 2.4ghz and my switches seem ok so far

  3. I have Kasa switches and I never had to reset them except for one time when we were having reconstruction and was creating new wire boxes in certain areas of the home. I love these smart switches.

  4. If you are plannibg new house, why not wire up everything and use central PLC unit? You don't have to use extra smart switches and use normal ones. Plus power consumption is lower.
When shit hits the fan you can just change entire module or bypass stuff with wires in distributor panel and yse everything like old switches.

  5. Lutron caseta for large overhead arrays with dimming and single switch in bathrooms. Phillips hue with lutron Aurora in bedrooms and theater room. The pico remotes are a game changer especially when it comes to retrofitting an older home. Paired with the modern look of the clero style plates. 👌 I'd rather leave my wifi clean of smart devices and between the 2 systems all my lighting and occupancy sensing is covered.

I had Kasa lights and swapped them for Lutron. I noticed a different in my electric bill. Kasa uses more power when not on because it's constantly pining the wifi to ask if someone sent a command.

  6. I left HomeSeer/Insteon a long time ago and went to GE/Jasco (Enbrighten) Z-Wave (40 dimmers/switches). They have been absolutely flawless for me for many years. I've recently added a couple of the Enbrighten Zigbee switches as well (to increase my Zigbee range). The money I've saved on switches I can put towards one Serena roller blind (:

  7. I've used Gosund switches for a couple years and they work 100%….not 99.9% …I mean 100%.
    They're perfect for about $10 a switch.

  8. I've added a few Kasa switches and so far I'm happy with them. I also had expensive Z-Wave Leviton switches, about $500 worth and I have problems with them in the garage. I had tried Zigbee and I recently solved my problems with them by buying cheap Ikea extenders. Z-Wave extenders did not do the trick for me. So, my cheap solutions: Zigbee and Kasa, are working out quite great. I do miss the beautiful dimming effect of the Leviton lights though.

  9. why are american switches so ugly

  10. Darn I bought Kasa switches but I don't have neutral line

  11. As a traditionalist I’ll stick with the plain ole light switch. It’s cheap simple proven . Above all it just plain works.

  12. Oof that Kanye joke did not age well.

  13. 5:48 aged like milk 😂

But Lutron works alone, without the need for “the cloud”…the same cannot be said for Kasa, which uses “the cloud”. If Kasa goes out of business, or decides it wants to start charging monthly subscription fees, you are out of luck and have to buy new light switches to replace Kasa

  14. Due to the lack of neutral wires and everyone having Apple devices, I had to install Lutron Caseta and Hunter SIMPLEconnect ceiling fans. This combination works well as the SIMPLEconnect fans integrate natively with the Lutron hub, and both the Hunter Fans and Lutron hub integrate with HomeKit.

  15. I've pretty much just got into smart home stuff, and while I haven't tried Lutron due to their pricing, I have tried Meross/ReFoss and Wemo. Meross/ReFoss makes nice, low cost smart home stuff that just seems to work fine. Wemo on the other hand has problems, especially with their new Thread 3-way smart switch, which currently is a piece of junk for the following reasons:
    1. It doesn't even work like an actual 3-way switch! That's right, it requires 2 clicks to turn off, and 2 clicks to turn on. (WTF???) That screws up HomeKit to the point where HomeKit can't tell if the light is on or off. How did this even get out of the factory????
    2. Previous Wemo switches had a built-in night light that glowed brighter when the switch was on. The new switch doesn't have either. What a brilliant move!
    3. Belkin says that this new Thread enabled switch can't be upgraded to Matter, so while everything else is going to Matter, which is built on Thread, your new Wemo switch won't.
    4. They removed the wires and added wire clamps. That's the only good thing about this new version of their switch, but it doesn't make up for numbers 1-3. Those problems have been reported to Belkin's worthless tech support, yet all we hear is crickets.

  16. Cloud – immediately NO!

  17. I personally went super cheap and went with Gosund. Wifi switches. THey get the job done and are 10 bucks a piece. I have really good internet so not too worried about that and they can operate as a normal switch if wifi goes out. The slight delay is worth it to me. Im not a big motion sensor guys for indoor use, I find it more annoying then useful and rather just either hit the switch, use my phone or voice control. Most people dont even know they are smart switches because they look exactly the same its just a push button instead of a toggle. I have about 30 switches in my house, so spending $300 vs $1800 made way more sense. You can still do automation within the app if you want as well they are just pretty limited. So I stick with alexas automations and thats good enough for me.

  18. Kanye… This aged well 😂😂😂

  19. Ye24 Bring God back to America.

  20. Lutron makes decent mechanical switches, but their software is sheit, which means their smart switches are sheit.

Also, been using kasa's inside my basement for about 5 years now. havent reset them once.

  21. So having used Lutron, Wifi, Zwave and Zigbee throughout my house, my personal opinion is I probably wouldn't go with Lutron. It's not specifically for any issues, they work perfectly fine. My general recommendation to 'average folks' is to just use WiFi switches and a Google Home/Alexa solution. You don't need any hubs and they're easy to expand. For myself, I prefer to just use hubitat and ZWave/Zigbee switches and so that's the route I go with anything new going forward. The main reason I don't recommend lutron is that lutron is specific to just light switches so it doesn't really make sense if you want to really create a smart home as you'll need a zigbee/zwave hub for all your other devices and so you'll be running multiple hubs that can potentially make diagnosing a problem a bit difficult. Also, important to note is that if you plan to do more than lighting and want the full functionality of the lutron hub with your other home automation stuff, you need the pro bridge (like utilizing the awesome pico remotes with other non lutron devices).

  22. I've tried "smart" devices for lighting. I don't like it.

Give me a dumb switch or hardware dimmer any day. They're instant, cheap and reliable – no external devices required to turn on a light. There are a couple of cases in my home where I do need a way to remotely turn on a light, and in that case I have some of those simple 433MHz remote-controlled outlets.

I love tech and gadgets, and because of that I've tried the whole smart-home thing, and I just don't like it. It's too inconvenient for me when I can literally walk into a room and flip the switch myself. (Other smart-type devices also apply here.)

Maybe it's tech-fatigue in my case? I dunno. Good video nonetheless 🙂

  23. Had started switching over to smart switches and outlets years ago. I was looking forward to automating as much as I could throughout the house. As my "smart" switches and outlets started failing over time, I replaced them a couple times with "smart" tech. After too much money wasted on replacing the failing tech I decided to just switch back to regular switches and manually turn my stuff on and off. I have never had a regular switch or outlet fail on me, and they are just a couple bucks each. I used Lutron, Leviton as well as other brands. As my last few "smart" switches and outlets fail, I will completely purge my house of the "not financially smart" switches and outlets. I am totally happy going back to a more simple way of life.

  24. I had a Kasa and after a month one day it flashed and smoke came out of it as it died. It also ran very hot all the time. I put in Lutron and it runs cool and has been fantastic.

  25. Sadly my Lutron switch died and caused my bulbs to strobe. Even the "reset" didn't do anything.

  26. How reliable will they be in 20, 30 or 50 years?

  27. Well.. I don't think Kanye will be president now. Yikes!
To be fair, don't think many people saw that coming…

  28. Lol@the dad joke

  29. I’ve used the original GE Smart Switches (almost exactly like ZooZ) for last 7-8 years and never looked back. Have about 19 switches (some 3-way) in my house and they’ve been super reliable and matches my “dumb switches” as well (for aesthetics). Think in the 8 years, I’ve had to replace one due to a power outrage that shorted one. That’s it.

  30. I have 14 Leviton smart switches installed in my 50-year-old home. They work great and they work with Alexa. My Levitons were about $40 each. I have no problem with them using WiFi. No hub!!

I've been using Kasa for 4 years now and I don't think I've ever had to reboot them. The response to dimming is instant using both the switch and the app.

Using a voice assistant will delay but that's on the voice assistant's side.
