Can someone please explain the lowercase L joke? I don't get it.
Luke ruined a perfectly timed sales pitch in the opening segment when he stopped Linus. I now know why Lukes not in the sales & advertising department.
On the photohraphy comment for the raw files: I've beein doing it for a hobby and I never charge for anything. I never worked professionally. I still ended up in a position of only wanting to publish and give people the edited version because I don't want some random edit to be attributed to me or anything like that. I just really hate the idea of the raw file being shared because they just don't look good. It's like publishing an slog3 video without color grading.
Wheres the Spotify upload ?
Loosing family is hard… I’m so sorry for your loss
Would you rather have unlimited Tips! But no Tech. Or Tech, UNLIMITED TECH! but no Tech.
2:15:36 Long time ago, we had an elderly landowner tell us about a penis game they'd play as kids at the creek we were surveying. Apparently they'd line up on the bank, drop their pants, rub themselves hard, then have a race across the cold water – whoever still had a hard-on after crossing won. Nobody knows why ole dick'n'balls decided to share that… I guess he grew up in different times lol.
1:11:00 — So this is where there is frequent confusion, and unjustified self-righteous attitudes: There is a huge difference between "the raw files" and "the .RAW files."
Digital photography is changing considerably in a market that used to be driven by physical photo sales. I recently just hired a photog for an event, and while it was definitely not a cheap package, the terms were very progressive. We got access to all the finished, graded, high-resolution images. There's no worrying about whether we have rights to share the image afterwards, or whether we're supposed to pay for specific licenses or whatever. They're ours, in full resolution, done and delivered, to do whatever we'd like with.
We're getting JPGs, with all the essential editing (cropping, color temp and H/S/L and contrast and gamma adjustments, etc.) as part of the deal. We paid for a specific photographer based on a portfolio, and the look and style of that portfolio is the product we want. I don't want to have to spend hours fixing red eyes and straightening them later, so I have no interest in unfinished photos. I haven't asked, so I don't know what their policy is on providing those, but I suspect they would entertain at least a conversation about our expectations and their warranty on the work.
BUT… that's not the same thing as asking for ".RAW files", which are like sensor dumps from the camera, without any post-processing in the camera itself. This is a whole other beast, and I don't think people appreciate the difference. I think this leads to a lot of confusion about what people are asking for, and what photographers are willing to provide.
Unless you happen to have your own photo processing studio, YOU DON'T WANT RAW FILES. Their only advantage is that it's the purest data set available from the digital sensor, so you get the maximum flexibility and dynamic range possible. The disadvantage is that you have to have software that can interpret that particular camera's output correctly, and then you have to handle all of the post-processing manually. I don't mean simply fiddling with the contrast slider. It has the potential to look VERY BAD unless it's done correctly. And unless you're an expert at doing it, you're not going to do it as well as the camera or the photographer would have. You don't want this burden.
All you probably want is a set of photos that haven't been touched-up to the point you can't un-touch-up them. So ask for "unedited photos", not "RAW files", because those mean very very different things. Not only would it be a slog to deal with actual RAW files, but unless you know you have software that can correctly interpret them for the model of camera used to capture them, you might not be able to do anything meaningful with them at all. Also, while JPG is a lossy format, the degree of lossfulness in the compression can be adjusted, and a professional photographer is likely to provide files optimized for quality over compactness. I.e., you already have more than enough detail to work with, and are unlikely to see much, if any, meaningful benefit in using RAW data, even if you can and know how to do it.
So yes, I utterly sympathize with photographers who have no patience dealing with clueless users who read somewhere in a forum post that this should be a non-negotiable requirement for booking, and then find themselves in way over their heads with nearly useless images that, in unskilled hands, won't ever look as good as the default JPG spat out by the camera body will. If it were me, the answer would be "no", too. If you can prove to me that you have any chance of getting some benefit out of them, fine, we can talk. But that isn't going to be the case for the typical bride that found a checklist of questions to ask, and has no idea why this one is even on there, but refuses to budge on the answer.
Time to find a way to cut your cost on the game the price you are selling it for is completely ridiculous.
When hired to do a photo shoot I've never actually thought that the person wasn't paying for the raw file…isn't that the norm for simple foto shoots, like yes charge for it if it really bothers you that much but you're gonna find that the people who hire YOU hire you for YOUR WORK regardless, like why be insecure about them doing whatever they want with their picture. THEY HIRED YOU FOR THAT PICTURE. ITS THEIRS IDK HOW ELSE TO SAY IT. As a customer what I am paying for is a person (water and food and a comfortable enough environment) to come out and take pictures (where the bulk of the money will be spent is the pictures, why? Because the photographer is crafting it sometimes real time, it's the talent of doing that combined with the results that I'm paying for) now the question is what is considered "the results" as someone who is presumably also out there with you while you're doing your things I'm thinking everything that is being done on my time is what I'm paying for because it's not just your time that is being used to get the job done yk? And it's not wrong to be insecure about the final product you make but if you are going to charge for that raw file make sure it's communicated off rip (at the start of the interaction)
Huh LINE mention. LINE is used in asia so I doubt LTT would actually care about it, but I wonder what their take on current ongoing Line ownership situation. For people don't know:
Line used to be owned by Naver(NHN) a Korean Company. It was developed by NHN Japan, under the direction of Shin Joong Ho. Korea already had hugely popular messenger/everything app named Kakaotalk, but seeing how Japan didn't have singular app everyone uses, NHN thought it was a huge opportunity. Their idea was proven correct as when LINE came out in 2011, it instantly became a hit. Nowadays in Japan, it basically does what google account does in the US. Line is single most used sign in account for many sites in Japan, many Japanese local governments use LINE's service to get things done.
But here comes the problem: Line is owned by foreign country(Korea), and it is unwise to have so many personal information on another country. But all the Line's data center was at Korea at the time. So, many Japanese politicians started to voice their concern/problems with over reliance on LINE. And that concern was proven correct as Naver suffered from hacks and data breaches around 2021.
To comply with some demands from Japanese gov and to please some Japanese politicians, Naver decided on a merger with Softbank. They decided to merge LINE with Yahoo Japan(Yahoo is still most used search engine in Japan), forming LY company. It is 65% owned by A Holdings, and both Naver and Softbank own 50% of A holdings each. Some more 'nationalistic' politicians in Japan still weren't happy since Softbank was owned by Son Masayoshi, an ethnic Korean. But it seemed like things settled down for a bit.
But just last year, Naver suffered another wave of data leaks and breaches.
In March of this year, Japanese gov stepped in and gave administrative guidance to reduce Naver's ownership over LY.
In April of this year, LY company announced that they'll contract local Japanese company for security and all Japanese account will be kept in Japanese datacenter that will be built by 2026. Kinda ignoring the whole 'reduce the Naver's ownership' part.
In response to this, Japanese gov again gave administrative guidance to reduce Naver's ownership. In democratic country, it is rare for goverments to directly order companies to do things unless they are breaking the law. And it is rare for Japanese gov to give out administrative guidance twice in a low. This meant Japanese gov really don't want Naver near LY. They are basically asking for a hostile takeover.
It's been a hot topic in Japan and Korea who are interested in tech. Even Nishimura Hiroyuki, the founder of 2ch and 5ch(the site that inspired 4ch), site known for Japanese nationalism, said this is unjust takeover during interview with AMEBA.
Taiwan is my favorite place in the world and the most underrated place to visit in my experience
Without Linus there's no LTT
When it comes to photo copyright and ownership of raw files, those are separate arguments. The person paying for the photos should own the copyright of the final work, free to post or print however they'd like. I also understand why photographers wouldn't want to share raw photos. They don't want you sharing that file in it's raw form or with a poor edit or an edit that isn't up to their style or quality and have someone judge them for work they didn't do. I for one have had some raw images not come out well and editing made them presentable, I wouldn't want some of my raw photos to be a reflection of my work or style.
can't wait to play me some "Linus crush saga"
Did Ubisoft restore the game to be downloadable ?
The reason that photographers don't want you to have the RAW is because you will edit it yourself. If you then present that work, that is taken as how the photographer would have edited the file. This is defamation. Source: married to a photographer and we had this discussion back when she was getting started.
I sadly can't find this on Spotify for some reason.
I work at a dealership and in mid May we switched from CDK to Tekion as our main system. We literally dodged a bullet. We would've been so screwed if we were still using CDK. We use some programs that utilize CDK and those were down for about a week but the bulk of out software worked just fine. Super lucky timing lol
What’s up with these last couple episodes taking so long to go up on streaming services?
Love the Big Time shout outs!
Linus takes all the smart features and furnishings out of his home to decide if he hates homes vs hotels because in essence a home is actually just the structure and everything else that everyone actually experiences in a home is added after the fact. This do I hate Android experiment is a didn't think very hard about this moment for Linus. The fact that the Google Pixel that he did this on is made by Google and is amazing and he has gimped it makes no sense.
It’s genuinely insane how much influence a government has on its people, Taiwan and China is so starkly different when it comes to the difference between their citizens’ attitudes towards everything, it’s honestly scary.
Yes, your mics are still live. Until then.
You guys could consider making mobile games. I'd be down to see what you make.
GPU Crash: tower game is an excellent new game and I want one
About the RAW files, you can check and ask, this happened to me actually, but, basically, clients (Karens) sometimes will request and use the RAW files to make a public social network complaint with a nasty RAW, dark, not cropped properly, crooked, etc. file as “what they received” so they can get a refund, or worse, just to affect the photographer, I understand you wouldn’t do that, but, as photographers, we can’t really know who’s going to do nasty stuff, and for example me, I depend on good social media reputation to get gigs and make a living, so it can be critical to us, this is why we might be zesty about our RAW files.
To fix this, you SHOULD have video meetings with photographers before booking them and make sure they’re photographers who are ok with handing the RAW files after the shoot.
