  2. oh not they set the precedent

  3. SBM is ruined by people exployting it by surfing or with how popular streaming is a streamer in a low tier can just team with a super high tier player from chat and get "bot lobbies" for them.

  4. skills based strawman from shitcorp…. suprise suprise…. its all about how its done…. like not optimised to torture money out of people… and zero fun

  5. I've seen tons of these drug ads on meta, I don't even do drugs

  6. 2:12:20 whats the point of using Ai to draft a letter to someone, like its not a long formal letter its a short heartfelt message maybe a oage long as most children would be capable of. whay would a parent enlist the help of an AI for that what type of parent is supproting thier child but unabke to draft a page long letter for thier child, just such an odd case.

  7. Bigger invoice = tax writeoff

  8. On the whole skill based matchmaking, A lot of the complaints aren't about skill based matchmaking, they're using the wrong term. Its mainly about how call of duty seems to rapidly adjust to how well you play, and a lot of people feel like they'll play one game where they do decently good, then get incredibly tough matches. Basically from what I can tell its often more a complaint against allowed variance within the match, wanting it to be more varied than it currently is.

  9. The biggest argument against sbmm that i see is basically cod sweats wanting to go 20-2 and they can't do that if they're playing vs their own skill opponents

  10. [2:19:15] I 100% I have more than 30 pair of socks and underware for that reason. I might do 2 washing machine a months max with bed sheet and other

  11. Linus is so funny dude

  12. As long as she keeps seeing them paychecks.

  13. MMR kills good games especially if it's hidden. Just let people group and play. The self destruction of Overwatch is a huge example of MMR done wrong going way off the rails. I love Fps since doom. but my learning curve for a specific game setting the rank for my lifetime experience on it kills my willingness to even engage with it. "Why bother? I need a whole new account after each time i get better?" Is a thing I've said multiple times when friends who know what I can do and want me on their team. I'm good at a role in a team that knows their roles. When my casual play based on me trying to fix randos making mistakes while I try to win decides my level. I am forever screwed.

  14. It's fairly obvious neither of them have been on a hook up app late at night, understandably

People are sometimes fairly lazy even when looking to hookup, and some cities are very hard to go far in (traffic, etc). There's also specific public locations/parks that groups hook up, at so there's apps that people go on to check how busy that area is by people's location

  15. If I could make one standard vanish from the face of the earth, it would have to be ATSC 3.0 (the new standard being developed for over-the-air TV in the US and presumably Canada and elsewhere). Purely because it has encryption designed to stop you from recording OTA TV.

  16. Halo Infinite actually presets matches with it's logic. It knows when you'll win matches and when you'll lose. That is an issue.

If the matchmaking system is putting you into a match it expects that you'll lose, why are people playing?

  17. skills based match making is good as long as mmr goes away

  18. Could you please put the link to the petition in the description @linustechtips ?

  19. Emily did an "servers lives underwater – hypertec" LTT video a year ago — maybe they will be willing to sponsor a video of where Linus uses one of their floor racks to submerge his compute servers (non-storage). Linus current cooling solution can cool the liquid via the heat exchange method. I understand the reaction Linus had when this was jokingly suggested, but hey — it would be great content.

  20. In a decade or two we're definitely gonna start seeing documentaries about "the victims of anti-loneliness AI" talking about it like hard drug addiction. For better or for worse.

  21. Can solve the smurfing issue by dumping unranked players into highest first.

  22. About skill-based matchmaking, it's interesting that Linus was concerned about sandbagging but sandbagging is absolutely still a huge problem in games with SBMM, due to it being extremely easy to assume multiple profiles in online games. The real answer, which most games already do, is to just have both ranked and unranked lobbies.

EDIT: I posted too soon 😆 my bad

  23. @LTT. I am constantly autoplayed old WAN shows and old build streams. I basically have it on all the time and at least 2 times a day I end up watching year old WANs, without wishing to

  24. good show

  25. I do my laubd6onw a month but it's 30 worth of sruff

  26. The reason a loud vocal group doesn’t like the idea of skills based matchmaking is because they want to be matched with randoms so they can stomp them instead of having to play people at the top competitive level of the game. That’s it.

  27. as far as i can tell stacked teams and smurfing to the detriment of fun for less skilled players became more and more prevalent with the spread of skillbased match making. and for quite some time reporting players misusing the algorhythm to dunk on new players wasn't q thing or reports were ignored. in older games there were no penalties for leaving the game mid match and from my experience, someone being a jerk could lead to all other players leaving and rejoining in another match or them just being voted to be kicked.
but that kind of selfmoderation in games isn't viable anymore with the amounts of players in the games that "matter", which somewhen around 2000 started being more a global than a regional thing, when i was in school you competed in the games friends and people from school competed in, none where free to play, if not pirated and to pirate you usually had to rip a copy of the files from the game from someone you knew or install the game with their copy, it was the time of no-cd-cracks.

  28. On the topic of news on the internet, all of Taiwan's TV news channels have live streams on YouTube.

  29. 14:50 cast away movie really captured how humans will personify inanimate objects when they don’t have an option for a real human interaction, so it doesn’t feel weird to me to have a lonely person personifying a computer. Actually a lot of people do this with their cars too. I do it as well. I rely on my vehicle to keep me safe during my travels and we’ve been through a lot of rough roads together and it makes me feel happier to have a connection to that car when travelling.

  30. 1:06:05 “we can’t just have people just making stuff up and presenting it as fact”
Wooooooah. That’s rich. I can’t address exactly what I’m talking about because moral duplicity is soooo strong and I will definitely be banned- but what a line.

  31. The problem with SBMM is the recipe for it made by the dev team for the game. Some games it's just K/D other it's a slew of things that just confuse the average player. Plus, it can be abused to match with lower skill players so at the end of the day it's hard for some people to even understand the point.

  32. This was supposed to be the all good news WAN show. Tisk tisk.

  33. Would be sick if the NAS tooling has the ability to sync encrypted storage between multiple sites! Somthing like synology but maybe use a similar torent like protocol like resilio sync.

  34. I don't have an issue with this, as long as the user doesn't become dependent on it or uses it as the only means of contact/dealing with issues.

Did Dan use Squarespace or one of the other sponsors to create an invoice?

  35. They did not have Buy Now at the beginning. I used to sell old PC parts and vehicle parts at auction back in the late 90's and DID NOT have the option to make it simpler with BUY NOW.

  36. I haven't even seen what video you're referencing where you collaborated with Wendel but it doesn't matter. However you justify it to yourself or to others, implementing a "bad faith comment" policy almost invariably leads to an atmosphere where valid criticism is censored. If you need an example of that you need not look any further than the cesspool that is reddit. Any perceived "negative" comment or criticism (no matter how valid) on reddit will bag you a ban at an approximate rate of 85%. That is exactly how reddit ended up as a hive mind of borg clones too soft and unserious for any debate that may confront their delicate sensibilities even if there is merit. I am telling you right now, whatever your intentions are, whatever your reasons, however you see this playing out, that is 100% where you will end up if you follow this course of action.

Good luck Locutus. It's not too late to remain Jean Luc.

  37. yeah I've noticed YouTube searches being bunk.

  38. The black screen could be caused by the javascript being like 'if you don't see an ad just put a black screen there for a few seconds'. I do something similar if the user is offline in my app. Surprised they only thought of it now.

  39. I just gained even more respect for linus when he cordially reprimanded Dan for undervaluing his time. 100% reminds me of the best manager I ever had. Good leaders will ALWAYS remind the people under them of how valuable they are, and help them grow. I can't state how much I adore seeing this.

  40. PLEASE god make a way bigger deal of Stopkillinggames! A Techquickie vid and maybe a solid shoutout in a main vid, 2 minutes in an obscure lifestream c'mon
