  1. Lower priced doorbell with a subscription OR higher price doorbell with no subscription?

  2. I just tested the recording feature on my indoor Kasa cam and it records directly to my iPhone. I don't have any subscription services. Maybe Kasa removed the paywall.

  3. Your video is inaccurate. If you can't record video directly from your playback to your phone you're doing something wrong. User error. Your porch problem can be solved with lighting. A smart bulb on a schedule During certain hours seems appropriate.

Thanks for the honest review.. the pay wall and the shitty 2 way audio are a deal breaker for me..

  4. You only need to subscribe when you want to download………which is virtually never.

Yes you can record and share. I did it through the hurricane and I wasn't even connected to the internet. This guy messed up.

  5. Never had a problem d/l data from the SD card.

  6. Do you have any video comparing wireless doorbells with camera?

  7. I own this item and you can save video from the doorbell. There is a record button on the playback screen now. Maybe it was an update, but you can save footage easily now without a subscription. 🙂

  8. Last year I bought a 3MP doorbell camera on Amazon for $21. You can read and download the SD card from your phone and the notifications were very fast, it also supported ONVIF which my NVR recognized so even if I didn't want to use it as a doorbell camera I could still use it as a regular security camera because it also included a power supply. The thing I didn't like about it was that I couldn't use it with my existing doorbells so I took it down. Oh, and it did have in-camera person detection. I had forgotten about it until now, I might have to see if I can find it and play with it some more.

I think ring changed it to subscription to record 24/7

the paywall is ridiculous, I bought the device and I own the SD card, and its my data… they are literally denying you your own property… who ever came up with that stratergy should be fired…

Everything you said is false looks like he is getting paid to say what he said it's an amazing product I have it and I love it and you can download any video that will record it it's so easy come on man how much did you get paid

  9. Any chance it's ONVIF compliant? If so the footage could all record to an NVR and get around the paywall. Lots of TPlink stuff IS ONVIF.

  10. What could be the benefit of encrypting what a doorbell camera sees? I mean there's nothing there that everyone can't see anyway! It's the front door.

  11. So easy to install and it shows me Newest.Technology what goes on in the neighborhood while I am gone or asleep. Nice to know my neighborhood is quiet and boring. Also great when a package is delivered.

  12. I can pop my SD card into my mac to get my footage, & its not encrypted.

  13. The kasa doorbell website says it works with Google assistant

  14. I have their indoor cam that I just setup yesterday, seems like you can now download video from the sd card.

  15. So which one do you use now

  16. Nice overview. Interesting option. Regarding Nest doorbell, doesn't it also require a subscription, even for activity zones and access to video recording?

  17. Very disappointed with my Kasa. Bad out of the box, tech support took two weeks to decide to issue and RMA and then 2 more weeks to deliver the RMA product. Sounds like crap, motion zones do not work. Notifications take too log or none at all. New unit sounds like crap on Two Way Voice, cannot understand each other. Waste of Time and Money. Should have sent it back to Amazon instead of waiting for the RMA.

  18. So, the local storage is on the device which is… outside your house. So after I steal your packages I can just steal your footage too. Great design!

  19. Bought two of these with SD cards. At the same time, both started with delays in notifications and both doorbells recorded videos became inaccessible. I agree that it seems like ransom ware! Trying to get Kasa is a pain. Amazon reps are desperately trying to help me with this. KasaCare is only for subscribers too.

  20. Thanks! We’ve enjoyed your videos and like how your reviews point out things that help us make decisions. And you’ve given us lots of automation ideas. Though I still don’t have a red light on my home office door connected to my TEAMs account…

  21. Good on you for not putting your kids faces on camera. You have them helping out without exposing them to the dangers of the internet or consent issues because of their age.

So basically they install Ransomware on your SD card. You are unable to unlock your files unless you pay them a fee…
There is no reason or excuse for a monthly fee with this doorbell.

  22. Installed mine a few days ago. Loving it, so far. I already knew about the storage concerns, but I also had a premium subscription already.

  23. We are in need of an easy and reliable doorbell and camera setup that won't break the bank for my mother-in-law. It needs to have the ability for us to see the cameras/doorbell remotely. She has been hit be scammers and it has been for enough money that they are coming back for more. They even have someone locally that has come to her house. Any ideas for a setup so that we can keep her safe and try and get a video of these people if they don't just give up? TIA.
