What is the brand of the flame detector and does it integrate (locally) in Home Assistant?
Great video!! I'm new to home automation and looking for my 1st monitor for the dashboard. Question the Pixel monitor you are using. Any special configuration required or just loading the room over wifi??
Thanks. All great stuff!!
Reed, what happened to the withings bed pressure mat? Just stopped working?
I'd like to get into Smart Assistant, but have no idea where to start. I've been connecting everything to Google Home. I have some matter devices. Will also have a new NAS, which is where I plan on hosting it. What do you suggest?
Since you’re already using Zooz devices, I’d recommend the ZEN15 Appliance Smart Plug for your washer, It’s built to handle higher inrush currents from motors much better than regular smart plugs.
23 is bad air quality? its like 400 in my city 😂
Reed, what theme are you using for your kitchen and phone dashboards! It looked increadible ! – Keen to share ?
I love the doorbell automation for not getting notifications when you open the door. I have two cameras installed in the front of the house and I get so many notifications and it gets so annoying.
LOL, thanks to this video I checked out the e-ink panel, then discovered that other brands offer the same panel, then I discovered that there's an active Kickstarter for a 31-inch color eink with the same panel tech and Home Assistant/API, that I ended up backing. Gonna make it display my todo list in my kitchen in the morning, then art the rest of the day. So many potential ideas!
Love the house setup! That frame T.V. is way too small. It's not worth sacraficing a far better watching experience for the sake of interior design aesthetics. Ditch it for an 85"-100" TV!
I cheese my lighting system by just leaving my lights on 24/7. When I was a kid, my parents used to hate leaving the lights on. But turns out in the glorious year of 2025, running lights is stupidly cheap. So I can just leave all the lights on forever and they're cheaper to run then buying smart lights.
I do use smart lights in the bedroom and the hallway leading up to the bedroom. But man, I just keep it all on all the time!
The thing goes where there’s smoke there’s fire not the other way around so have in mind that once there is a visible flame, it might be too late
I could see people giving this guy shit for the laundry thing, but really, he's not the only one putting stuff in a hamper. So you won't always know how full it is if others are putting stuff in it. Single people can tell more easier. The benefits of smart home tech certainly multiply with the more people you have in your family.
The HomePod is a known issue. The diode needs replacing.
I've seen your automation where the PIP notification on your TV pops up whenever someone rings your doorbell in a few of your home tour videos but I could never figure out how you do it. Is it a specific feature of your doorbell? Can you provide some guidance on how you did it? Thanks in advance!
Can you tell me the manufacture of the warning light you used at 18:35? Thanks,
The fan looks sad when it has to turn off. Lol
Good video. One of the big challenges with home automation is if you live in colder climates. Many devices won’t function outside in winter which defeats the purpose of. Example is the zooz you mentioned, its range is 32-104. Doesn’t work in cold or the hot summer days in the south. Companies are slow to address this.
I have a suggestion commerical door closers (aka the arm and box on the top of a door)
They aren’t smart home compatible, and they don’t need to be. They’re perfect for exterior doors, office doors, garage doors, and more because they do exactly what they’re made to do: close the door.
You can also customize how they work. For example, you can have them start closing slowly and then speed up at the end to make sure the door latches, or do the opposite if the door doesn’t need help latching.
They’re also far superior to spring hinges, which tend to either:
A) Slam the door, or
B) Not latch it properly.
Technology Connections made a great video about them, and I highly recommend watching it.
Also love your videos Reed!
you need mark rober to squirrel proof your feeder. LOL
Excellent!! I do have a random question: how do you manage to make the Apple TV to pause and do lights on specific apps?! And also… how did you setup the doorbell and Apple TV to work together so it can pause and then start playing again?
It's all lovely, but it just makes me realise how much I can't afford. Cinema room is just a pipe dream for most of us 😢
Makes me wish is I was rich and/or sponsored.
Really cool stuff, definitely got inspired by some of your new automations … old time viewer, your channel got me into the smarthome thing… question, i also do the light dimming in the room when playing and pausing etc… but been using a fire tv, I really want to get rid of all amazon products from my home due to advets etc…. Im big into the apple ecosystem, but never got the apple tv… partly due to i wanted to automate things… is it possible with apple tv to detect those states? In home assistant, and can you also launch apps? Like on android tv? Due i have automations eg camera detect someone outside, alexa will ask if i want to see camera, will pause tv, open app to display camera feed…. Sorry for long comment
How do you set up ESP Presence and Bluetooth to switch your phone to the room you're in? That is SO COOL!!!
I wonder if the Unifi Audio Port may be a good fit in place of your HomePod in the garage? Might be a little bit more cost up front, but if you're willing to do the wiring, speakers outside to the garage with the Audio Port inside the house may prevent risk of heat damage in the future.
You should get into N8N man. It has direct connections with Home Assistant. You can do some really crazy stuff with it.
Amazing House!! Does anybody know what the Theme on the Pixel Tablet is called?
Hold up. How did you set up the Apple TV light dimming thing?
I have a unifi doorbell, and need to look into how you turned off the annoyance factor when you go get a package. Is that a video coming soon 🙏🏻
It'd be great to see a deep dive on your home theater.
You could connect your battery charger in the studio to a smart plug, so it automatically stops charging if a fire is detected. I’m not sure if it would make a huge difference, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
4:12 I see a pellet rifle in your future.
Waited for so long
These homepods are really unreliable huh…
Looks like you need a visit from Mark Rober, to deal with those squirrels 😀
I think I can answer the issue with the HomePod Mini. Apple says their homepods use a magnet or even magnets in them to do a lot of things it does. So if the unit is not pointing up as designed (especially because of a mounting bracket the keeps the unit on its side or upside down) the magnet could shift over time. That's why they discourage most mounting brackets.
So happy I came across this channel just right now and wanting to do the same in my home!
So you haven't automated your windows… I must be the only one that has…
Great video as always, Reed! My smart home is in need of some TLC haha
P.s. – the mmWave sensor and the air fryer is awesome. Does the dreo integrate with Home Assistant?
What are those plates behind the outdoor cameras to cover the cables?
You can keep squirrels out of your bird feeder by buying spicy bird seed! Birds can't taste capsaicin but squirrels can, so only birds will want to eat it.
Can the aqara presence sensor in the bedroom distinguish if one or two people are present there, so it doesn't turn the evening scene too fast? Also in which rooms do you find the mmwave presence sensor use critical?
Go Cougs!
YES I WAS WATCHING THE 2023 6 HOURS AGO AND I WANTED A NEW ONE. THANKS SO MUCH REED!!!
Man what a beautiful house you have!
I love all the automations! Been using your channel as an inspiration for quite a while now, just a shame I dont have anywhere near that many rooms to put sensors on!
I love these videos
Awesome awesome!!! You were the main reason I started my smart home journey 4 years ago and still the reason I continue to invest in my smart home!!! All you need now is your own local AI machine … I’m using an i9 12900k 128gb RAM Ubuntu Machine with 2 rtx 3060’s 12gb each (24 gb VRAM total) able to use gpt-oss:20b with voice pe in HA and man is it cool and awesome!!!! I’m alao using faster whisper gpu for STT and HA own TTS (found that I like that the most) gotta try it out.. you’ll take your smart home to the next level.
Oh … add N8n for some serious automation in your day to day life and work also.
Love your content!! You rock!!
