People overate this headset as if it has micro OLED 4k displays in each eye plus high FOV of like 130 degrees but in reality its specs is meh, I don't get the hype around it.

If it is double the price of the Quest 3 as rumoured, then I don't see enough improvement to upgrade. I'd rather get a Beyond 2 for that price, which has OLED screens and is much lighter.

It'll all come down to price.

As an aside, it's nice to see Valve doubling down on their attempts to weaken Windows' stranglehold.

I am so dissapointed that the controlers aren't self tracked, it p much ruins the headset for me, since for vrchat i want ppl to see if i put my hands behind my back or even at my side

This is what happens with healthy competition and not a monopoly. Valve took us years off experience and what others were doing well and optimized out into a seemingly great product

Would be such a pro move if they allow integration of base stations with the Frame. Meaning that people with the index still get the benefits of something they bought and allows us to upgrade our Frames tracking if it ends up being better.

I wonder how eye tracking will affect people with lazy eyes?
I have a dominant eye, and an eye with really poor vision, astigmatism, light ghosting that can't be corrected by prescription lenses, I wonder if the eye tracking would cause motion sickness to be more prominent in this headset for people like me, or feel more like real life Vision. So I'm curious when these launch as useable demos in shops if this will be a more accessible headset to use or not. I don't have good depth perception IRL and didn't know, so maybe the vision with the eye tracking, will help my "working eye" operate as it would.

Just a thought of mine:
All the new products Steam has introduced are great and seemed to come out of nowhere, but compared to the impact of the Half-Life 2 demo and what it promised back then, they still don’t come close if you were around at the time.
It’s just a feeling, but I find that astonishing.

I love that Valve still GETS what's important in hardware. Physical IPD adjusment is huge and so many devices just handwave it because of complexity/production.

Meta is trying too hard to direct locked VR hardware into their vision and eventually monetisation – user account, social network, metaverse with microtransation store.
Valve gives it's open systems to users with saying "we don't know, you create the usage", although they will surely monetise their interest in some way, steam or else.

Can someone clarify – if I already have base stations mounted and get a frame, will it be able to use the base stations if, say, one or more of the cameras on the frame gets broken?
