We had a really nice 50" inch flat screen Sony CRT growing up. It's definitely part of the reason we look at ps2 era games now thinking they look even worse than we remember just because the screens we use.

Light guns don't work on LCDs
10 points for owning chrono trigger. Best game of all time.
I own a 20" JVC studio monitor, my Sega Genesis and SNES games have never looked better!
The issue with modern LCD panels vs. CRTs is that LCDs expect a set pixel resolution, which is not really a thing in analog video. CRT images have a different quality than LCDs, as well; the light source of an LCD display is typically behind the image, whereas with a CRT it is the image, which along with the softer resolution gives it a warmer quality, imo. Also, the visible scan-lines on a CRT tend to make pixel art "pop" better than an LCD, on which they tend to appear very flat.
Certain emulators like MAME have very good CRT filters that can fake the qualities of an old TV, but even so it's hard to replace a real CRT for retro consoles and arcade games.
