Thanks for watching! Are you guys preordering HomeView or any of the other new devices?
I noticed the HomeView has Safari. That's how you could get your HA dashboards showing on it.
Also, regarding your questioning of its worth for FaceTime etc. calls. My wife and I don't carry our iPhones everywhere in the home so having a central device for calls would be a huge convenience. No more running around the house trying to find where we last put down our phones when a call comes through… What could be a possible downside is whether it supports Facebook Messenger which some of the extended family use.
I would take it a bit more seriously if it allowed third party apps and was able to integrate well with Home Assistant, i.e., you could run it with a Home Assistant dashboard while still having all of the other Apple stuff on there. At that price point I might as well just get a tablet, mount it and run Home Assistant on that instead. Hopefully Apple does more work on the software side of it, because I feel like they have a really solid chance of turning this into a better product if they opened it up to third party apps.
interesting…by not really innovative.
I had a Crapple work phone for years and will never own a Crapple device myself.
Being able to see Siri timers while cooking is the only reason I’m sold on this.
Timers with Apple are impossible with Siri. You can’t tell if she sets one or not, this will keep her accountable.
You’ll be able to see them.
All we want is an oled iPad mini with a speaker stand that when it’s docked will go into this mode. What’s the go with having multiple of these in one house? Can you dedicate one for the kitchen and one for the living room and exclusively show the controls for that room? Too many questions and not enough answers.
Even the fans seem kinda "meh" about this one. Like a solution too lazy to even start looking for a problem.
I appreciate the increased competition, but I won't be buying it. Hopefully this will give a little push for Google to update their smart display.
if I need a timer, I will use just my watch.
the color looks fk the same to me lol
I thought it was just me. It looks like a giant Apple Watch. Not seeing the point of this product.
this will flop
Success! Apple has finally combined an HomePod and an iPad!! Love it!!
For someone who is blind or has low vision, does the Apple home view support accessibility features such as voiceover to interact with the touchscreen?
2:45 That's actually great for people with hand tremors or any kind of motor disabilities. In fact, in the app called "Mixing Station" for Android, I created a custom layout with a big button for switching between sources in my Behringer Wing Rack — one for my Linux PC and one for my Apple TV.
I don't think Apple played it too safe. I think they designed HomeView around what their core smart home customers actually need.
Many Apple Home users interested in this device probably already have HomePods throughout their homes, so another enhanced speaker isn't necessarily needed. FaceTime also makes sense as a convenient extension of the home's intercom system. If you're working at your computer, having a dedicated screen for a quick FaceTime call without picking up your phone is a nice option.
To me, HomeView is about adding a convenient smart home command center wherever you need one, not replacing devices you already own. Sometimes the best addition to an ecosystem is something that complements what's already there rather than trying to reinvent it.
Seems like a hard pass to me.
9:27 MKBHD ?
Apple homeview is a big disappointment and the wall mount version costing the exact same without the base and an additional $60 wall bracket separate is STUPID!!!! I feel like it was just a money grab with no real innovation put into it.
definitely Gen 2 loop back, it feels very very Model 1 vibes where 2 and 3rd gen will be better
overall it makes sense
that is a terrible device. yuk. like honetly what is the point
So many misses here. LG partnership…nah. Price…nah. It would have been cool if Home View were its own home lab server. Home View isn't here for the people watching this video, it's here for the general public.
Does it work with Home Assistant? If not, I won’t buy it, as I’ve invested too much in Home Assistant now. I thought Apple was going to introduce automations that would tie all devices together.
This seems like dipping a toe into the pool. Wish they’d allowed for people to get more HA complex if they wanted while having the simplicity available for newcomers to smart homes. Way too safe in my opinion. The HomeView 2 should be on a 360° swivel base, and be capable of far more complex smart home useful features. Right now it seems like just another Phone/Watch/Tablet.
The HomeView wall version should be a completely separate product with a a larger option and function more as an advanced dashboard, perhaps capable of displaying a full one month calendar, and being able to be written on with an Apple Pencil. I mean who needs FaceTime on the wall!?
Seems like a “we should have a product” and not a “we should conquer this segment of the smart home.” Kinda sad honestly. If this had been the effort they put into the original iPhone Apple would no longer be a company.
I've had Apple products for over 40 years. Last few years they keep dropping the ball, rising prices !! and bending the knee to Trump. So moving away from Apple ecosystem over the next few years.
These devices a straight trash. The apple tv has to be the biggest disappointment ever… we have waited YEARS and all was got was a higher price and some shitty microphones.
I personally feel this is a big no no. As its a collaboration with LG. And with their recent HUGE privacy and lets just call it what it is, spying tvs lately. Its not something i would want anywhere close to my home.
HomeView with no Siri AI yet? Promised for a future release? Home Pod Mini 2 with no Siri AI yet? Also promised for a future release? Apple TV doubled in price but only adds microphones? Apple TV has updated it's processor and RAM but for what? Gaming or Home Automation? Promised to be shipping with Siri AI Beta. It would be fantastic if we could install the Home Assistant app on the Apple TV. With Apple TV hosting the Home Assistant App the price tag would make sense. Show me Siri AI successfully building home automations via voice commands. I guess since we have already waited years for this we can wait another year or so. I really want to kick Jeff Bezos out of my house.
3:47 Are those feeds actually love or just the normal HomeKit snapshots? Haven't been able to find an answer to that yet anywhere
I preordered one, it will stay on my desk but def want to replace all of our google home displays and echos if the price ever drops, the kitchen lenovo google home display doesn't have gemini yet
$300 for a 7 inch screen is wild.
Main thing is it’s not Amazon and I don’t have to touch any Androids.
How do photos display in a household if they are tied to a single persons account?
5:50 The tabletop model should have implemented DockKit with some motors so it will face you when you call "hey Siri" and track you during interaction and FaceTime. That would also give it a more assistent kind of interaction and feeling.
I spent about two hours today making a new summary tab on my home assistant (HA) looks almost like the new Apple home view. HA was able to incorporate a lot more sensor details in the big icon titles like my home energy kWs without losing the simplistic vibe. Good default view in my opinion. Still have more nerdy detailed and surveillance tabs.
The Wall Mount HomeView pricing strategy makes sense because it is targeted at corporate applications.
I'm interested to see it working in a real domestic setting, so I'm looking forward to your take on it. I've already got my personal computing needs met, so I don't need another device for that, but I would like something that pulls my smart home together. It looks like a nice screen, seems snappy and responsive, and it's not going to sell my data so I'm optimistic. Does the POE version actually use ethernet, or is that just a power source?
Oh look, it's the Apple Big Watch 🤣🤣
