Sodium Ion should be out in 2023. So it's going to be happening a lot sooner than people think.

  3. The more luxury items' you put in a new electric car like say 1, heated seats ,Air Conditioning zone control. Well you get the idea with all these extras built into your new EV will also use more of your battery power, So right now more charges = less life for your EV

EV's are freaking amazing I never want to go back to ICE car.

  6. Electronic

  7. What happened to platinum batteries ?? BTW when I first heard of EVs becoming a thing I had originally assumed that cars would all use standrdized batteries that could be swapped in moments …pull into station they pop out your dead batteries and slide in fresh full charged….for some reason that never happened Can U imagine though? You pull into a station your vehicles stops above a pit where workers or rototics release the heavy flat battery module as the car is pulled several more feet along and a freshly charged battery module is clamped into place and you are gone! Good to go another 500 miles on your leased exchange battery fully protected you never buy a battery again ever…and of course you can still charge at home or at a charge station….just that for trips you can have the entire thing swapped in less time than a traditional filling of gas tanks would have taken….imagine that!

  8. The question I am asking myself lately is this;
If cost wasn’t an issue what chemistry could yield the most power dense ?

  9. CNET

  10. I'd say its inevitable that batteries become more energy dense than the average gas tank, all you have to do is ask yourself, how heavy is an electron?

  11. When getting an electric vehicle you are replacing the money at the gas pump for money charging it at home.

  12. Can it solve the explosion in battery 🪫. That’s why I am scared of EV they burn quick 😢

  13. Glad to see improved EV batteries, but EV's merely prolong America's destructive car culture and resulting suburban sprawl.

  14. Imagine drones with a light solidstate battery

  15. Buy a used Tesla and call it a day

  16. 1:10 fuel capacity in gals instead of mpg.

  17. Realize that when the 'affordable' battery comes along, BEV cars will become commodities. They will be dirt cheap and much more reliable. That's going to be quite a change. There are already lots of people for whom electric cars are more than adequate.

  18. Pioneering Game Changing 21st Century New Compact EV-EKG internal self charging battery technology turns EV's into on-demand, carbon-free zero emission electricity power-plants. Benefits include unlimited EV range/mileage and the end to retail external battery charging cost & time Find out if your next new EV will have internal self charging technology. EKG is not perpetual motion, but an advanced e-power plant.-EKGelectricitykineticgenerator -EKG technology is not only for our daily EV transportation but can be used in the event of emergencies

In the event of future catrosofic weather events, war or just an e-grid failure with thousands of UPS, FedEx, Amazon Prime and USPS delivery trucks plus local police, fire, ambulances, school & city buses all with future Internal EV-EKG power-plant technology could provide immediate critical on-demand local electricity. The American Red Cross and National Guard can be equipped with 10 to 100 KWh portable EKGs providing crucial life saving power to hospitals, emergency shelters, senior homes, cell phone towers etc…

  19. That's a lot of BS talking. Bring those new batteries to the market now. I've been hearing this type of crap for years.

  20. 1996 in just a few years !
    2002 in just a few years !
    2007 in just a few years !
    2012 in just a few years ! 2017 in just a few years !
    2022 in just a few years !
2028 in just a few years!

    2050 anyone got a snorkel ?

  21. I am going to have to sit down a build a robotic folding trailer, that has fingers to slide in the holes of tesla car wheels. With 4 telescopic rams to lift each wheel equally and start dropping batteries for ebay sales.

  22. No mention of lithium sulfur? Potentially 4x the energy density of li ion.

  23. There is no alternative technology to the lithium ion battery that can be brought to market within the next 10 years, it’s one thing to develop something in the lab and it’s another thing to commercialize. It took 30 years of research and development to deliver ion batteries to the market it will likely take the same amount of time for any alternative technology

  24. Us haters arent haters CNET, us "haters" dont like that a cheesy tabloid commentator trying to sell his hated tech that doesnt work in real life. when you try to do actual work with an EV, it fails miserably. In fact, it will only achieve 30% of work when towing or carrying heavy weight. least you forget, every technology that ever succeed was because the consumers wanted it because it worked not because it didnt work………..

  25. Us haters, would still not buy one!

  26. Just more reasons for 🔥LS SWAPS🔥

  27. I don't understand why this guy is at CNET, he is an old-school car guy.

  28. Always in the future, never tomorrow.

  29. Kudos on info here. Glad to here mention of waiting to let new tech "gel", especially since auto companies are proving very bad at repairing/supporting the many intermittent glitches the products are showing (both my brothers' Lexus and my Subaru are glitchy, with dealer techs saying they can only fix problems if the systems flat out fail).

  30. Excellent points. I shared this video with my EV-procrastinator friends ("need 500 mile range," "must be AWD," etc.) We bought a Kia Niro EV three years ago and just love it (despite only a 275 mile range and FWD). An added bonus – here in Oregon public facilities such as libraries, fair grounds, and public utility districts offer free charging. Why wait!
