  1. Is anyone else watching this video that isn't a network engineer or in IT and is totally lost?

  2. Is the memory still working? Since you were not ESD protected?

  3. Incoming line to a dedicated vlan to just jump out and over.. I've done that before in an odd situation like that… hahaha… it works… πŸ€·β€β™‚ Not really the right way, but in a pinch, it'll get ya by.

  4. I'm sticking to Palo Alto. Surprised LTT doesn't have an enterprise grade network stack with some type of HA architecture. Good content, though!

  5. So do you use pfsense or opnsense? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IzyJTcnPu8

  6. Jesus I would love to work at a place that just had so many parts on site. I have to fill out a purchase request, explain to someone who has no idea what I am saying why I need it. I could legit use language like "I need a double plexor for full duplex networking failover detection".

No hard feelings at all if you mail me your old router 😁

  7. Is there a good router out there today? I'm still using an Apple Airport Extreme. I tried a couple routers and they sucked compared to the Apple router.

  8. What was the power draw of the new server!???

  9. pfsense sux if you have to use pppoe.

  10. I dont understand why you guys have not built a new larger server room with the amount of equipment and heat load you have now LOL. RIP SERVER ROOM…

  11. It doesn't take long for neat and tidy network cabling becoming a rat's nest when upgrading infrastructure. Been there. As for a "dedicated" router from Cisco with custom ASICs, it could easily cost 20K plus, including security firmware.

  12. Very weird. I checked today and Netgate says that the upcoming 2.7 will be FreeBSD 14.0. They must have seen this video and heard the smack talk!

  13. Weird flex but ok

  14. I love that Jake has went from Linux's "sidekick" on these projects to a very competent network engineer. Using the VLAN switch as a media converter to work around missing NIC was a good call.

  15. you could just buy a $1000 mikrotik router which will do 20gbps instead of building some janky pfsense rubbish.

  16. 'Later-Jake' – screw that guy! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…

  17. Jake is the next Antohny in making πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

  18. less jake would be fun

  19. Am I the only one that realized that Linus keeps randomly switching his phones between iPhone and Android

  20. I like it how they had a detailed written timeline on the days upgrade, including β€œPlan B” procedures πŸ€—

  21. The one thing I don't get is why they have such a small and inconvenient server room.

  22. Gotta get a screw gun, skip that LTT manual driver gotta use a driver with a torque setting to rack stuff.

  23. pfSense = no WiFi AX AP mode support and general piss poor WIFI support in general, that a side both pfSense and OpnSense are both great routers, but separate access points required for todays home and office networks.

  24. Hardware of us normal people's dreams: dual 32 core EPIC processor
Jake: that's what I had lying around

  25. lol im not gunna lie i didn't understand a DAM THING but i loved listening lol you too have a GREAT BROMANCE going on !

  26. 14:18
    "They are not great performance"
Wrong. Their latency is better than traditional nand drives

  27. Hey Strongbad, do you like techno at all?

  28. MACSEC is the way. 100Gbps? No problem.

  29. Did some one say "system of a down" shit you meant the system is down

  30. patch panels in the front, all the actual gear in the rear. Sounds good.
Someone should volunteer for some weekend dollars and reorganize that cabinet

  31. Mellanox is way better & compatible, also try mikrotik with wireshark which is faster with NAT444 and within mikrotik you can add multiple docker containers

  32. that network closet is a horror in progress

  33. Hey Strong Bad, do you like techno at all? If you do, what kind?…… Silent J

  34. When you get to a 100Gbps get a Palo Alto firewall. Expensive but worth it.

  35. Curious if you'd still have those issues when the next version of pfSense comes out. At the time pfSense 2.7.X was still going to be on FreeBSD 12.3 but now it will be on 14.0.

  36. Professional….. BWahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…… breaths ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  37. Awesome video! Good job guys! I had almost the same setup πŸ˜‰
I'd put a bigger ssd inside and use Squid-Cache behind a transparent proxy, to cache internet stuffs πŸ™‚

  38. Captain obvious question here! Why not make this video after hours or during the weekend? Don’t get me wrong Linus and Jake are entertaining as hell. But I am sure Linus took a ton of sh*t for this lol! πŸ˜‚

  39. Hmmmm

  40. This brings back so MANY bad memories… I'm sending LTT Store my thearpy bills for this episode!

  41. Patch pabels in the front and switching in the rear! Just how you should entertain in a server room!

  42. No Sir,its "system OF down".

  43. Why is that GD screwdriver SO expensive?….. are you guys nuts?….. I CANT find another screwdriver ANYWHERE that expensive……….. I cant imagine why anyone would think paying $70 for that driver is a good idea or even anywhere close to a good idea….. holy smokes!

  44. Just repurposed an older dell R310 with Sophos. I was going to use PFSENSE but went a different route

  45. linus i beg of you please reach out to canadian stream xqc on twitch his pc crashes upon opening warzone on his $3400 dollar pc
