A note on Ryzen on Windows 11: We did not experience the CPU-swap performance degradation bug in our testing. Our Ryzen bench was running a fresh install with the patch and chipset driver from the get-go; It was actually geared for Windows 10 if we couldn't get the patch + driver in time for testing, and wiped for the fresh install once they became available. -AY
i9-12900H in my laptop. Integrated graphics performance is kinda nice actually. I played KH2, the (bad) Epic Games port and my framerate was still really high. Impressed with computer parts nowadays. I like turning off the Nvidia GPU via the mux switch and gaming on integrated graphics saves even more battery, and when I need more battery life the laptop can also charge via type c at 100 watts.
i have the 12700F and it's epic. However in turbo mode for basically anything it overheats almost right away.
Interesting how people perceive this as a reaction to AMD, as in the other brand brings out a new chip within a year. Though I’m reality the development of Alder Lake took like 4-5 years. Which is normal. These companies have to plan their generations development way ahead until the process and tech are ready for it.
The lesson is choose the i7 or Ryzen 7 if you want true performance and not an auto overclocked chip.
Can someone say why they didn't test the new i7?
Our IT dept. buys thousands of PC's not based on cpu performance charts, but on which motherboards still have support for Windows XP, NT, and Windows 7 drivers.

I don't think computer buys or the industry really understand, Generation X does not like or want to use Windows 10 or 11 and is pushing back and not buying chips that force them to use Windows 11. (aka, Intel 12th gen or Ryzen).
You may be saying, well, newer is always better so get with the program. Well, what kind of vehicle do you take to work, gasoline piston driven or electric? You might think, ah hah, I drive a Tesla, gotcha… tow hic I would reply… a jet engine is newer tech. Why aren't you driving a jet engine car to work. Or Jet plane. Newer is aways better, right?
Newer can and frequently does go backwards and downhill… it's as true with operating systems is as it is with later released budget variations of flagship cpu's….
Anybody that actually creates anything does it on Windows 7.
I've got people at work taking over my Windows 7 PC because its just so easy to use and fast without all the chart funk h377 of their Windows 11 boxes. I tell them any time they want, I'll reformat their PC and put a cracked version of Windows 7 on it… got a USB key installer on my keyring to do just that.
My non-K 12600 i5 6-core scored over 13,000 in multi-core benching, only $245.

Is there a change in preformance with the I9-12900KF? does not having onboard graphics change anything? From everything ive seen thats the difference between the K and KF right?
What happened to the core i7?
My previous laptop had i5 8265u + ddr3 2800 (acer swift 3) and now I have i5 1240p + ddr5 4800 (msi summit e14 evo). And it's just banger, 4x more performance in my working program. I was expecting 2x max. I'm just amazed what intel did with 12th gen

I just got a 12700K (timing isn't great but my prior motherboard died and needed a system) and am extremely pleased. I was worried that it was going to be a little furnace but it takes a decent undervolt. Under a synthetic load, the absolute highest core briefly hit 62c with a NHD15 and all case fans (noctua 140mm in an Evolv X) inaudible in my environment but the average temp was in the low 50s for all cores. Extremely impressive.
I just built a 12600k on an ITX Z690 DDR4 board with 4000mhz 32GB RAM, a 6950XT, 850w SFX, Scythe Big Shuriken 3 CPU Cooler, darkFlash DLH21 case, and two 120mm slim Scythe case fans. It has 2 1TB 4.0 SSDs, and runs Warzone max settings 120-degree FOV with Ray Tracing at 200+FPS on 2560×1080 at 144hz.
Does this feel like the move from Conroe to Lynn Field or Bloomfield?
How about the tests you ran when the i7 920 first came around vs now? Are they really that much different?

Desktop PC: Give me the most cores with the fastest base speed at lowest cost
Laptops: Give me the most cores where the base speed is scarified to maintain the temperature so the computer stays cold and the fan is not constantly running making the battery last longer and at lowest cost.
Looking back at this after ryzen 7000 launched its just insane that the ryzen 5 7600x beats th i9 12900k in single threaded workloads.

Just got an i5 12600k , mainly aiming for high fps gaming. I'm currently on win 10 and am loving the fps boosts over 9th gen intel.
Question , is upgrading to win 11 going to show higher fps in games? I've read that win 11 game mode is actually good and shows frames. Anybody know ?

please add to your testing rendingering 100 raw photos in lightroom and a render of a 4k 10 min video in premiere. not everyone who builds PCS are gamers and i love to compare stats on these adobe software.
I also think we should mention these 12th gens compared in a low power mobile environment as in the ryzen7 5850u vs intels offering at this power level.

i dont know what the heck you guys are all talking about saying intel is selling space heaters. Ive owned every generation i7 and the 10900k and have had them all on a big air cooler or a 120 rad and gaming in gta everything maxed none of them got over 55c and on cinebench never got past 68 c … for ANY of my chips. what are all of you doing with your setups? lol ive had 2 ryzen chips now that idle at 50c in the bios. and everyone says Oh its supposed to do that. meanwhile intel idles at 30. hmm i wonder wich one is gonna last longer…..
I have the i5-12600k and I have to say I am extremely impressed. I've always been an intel fan, but thought about switching to AMD for several years. Finally, I can worry no more.
I'd LOVE a revisit to this, now that we know 12th gen has issues with bending and contact patch on the cooler. I'm going to get the thermal ready frame over the TG frame to flatten out my cooler, then I'm going to liquid metal it. Small form factor case heat management things..

I have a Intel Core i5 12600 K(F). It needed a proper cooler fron Noctua, the NH-U12A Chromax. Runs great even under heavy load. No problem with heat.
okay but like, Ryzen CPUs are still less wattage than intel cores and requires less cooling. This saves so much every year on energy.
and yet some folks will buy alderlake ( and now raptor lake) with ddr4 z690 boards… I guarantee it.

why are there no i7's being compared?
i dont really expect more frames from an i7 but id like extra cores for streaming so could i expect slightly more or just as many from the new i7's ?? i dont care if theres more frames just not less than the i5
pulled the trigger and went full ddr5 and 12600k, from an i5-7600. What a difference! When the new gen GPU's, Direct Storage and resizable bar comes around, its going to be nuts!
Pretty salty personally that Intel's 12th generation of CPUs are holding gamers wallet hostage with a forced Windows 11 upgrade to fully function. Let alone how hot these CPUs are getting. Id have to invest in a new power supply, expensive CPU fan, motherboard and shitty windows 11 to upgrade. Possibly even DDR5 ram sticks. That's a hard sell! No thanks i guess for now i will pass till i see better value.🖕
