Around 2005 I upgraded my Pentium 4 that had 512MB ram to 1.5GB by buying another 1GB, I think it had 4 total sticks 2×256 and 2×512. Not sure if that matters. but it certainly did improve things. Half Life 2 minimised and maximised much faster.
I bought it from Crucial because I had no idea what to buy and they had a software that scanned my PC and found it had a certain speed RAM so recommended the same for me.

Is it always the case that the slot next to the CPU is the first one to be empty and then go from there or does it not matter which 2 offset slots you choose? Ex. 1&3 vs 2&4, not that they are numbered though
