Whatever Nintendo says, emulators are legal – but ROMs are not. If you own a physical game, is there a way you can legally use it on a PC or handheld? Or do you simply have to buy it again?

Deals for Days. Big home savings are happening now.
my plan was too do this but with Simpsons dvd box set collections, turns out FOX unsurprisingly has some seriously bullshit DRM, especially considering how old this stuff is, suppose it was the height of bootlegging
Notes for the ones who is troubles getting Raspberry Pi for similar setup!
In my country (Japan), it's easier and cheaper to buy some Celeron Mini-PC instead of Raspberry Pi. You can use RecalBox or Lakka (which is available for x86) distros instead of RetroPie, but they work more or less the same!

If the game is no longer available in a digital or new (recommended retail) physical format, then the use of ROMS should be considered as legal. Some people and stores exploit the second hand market and totally rip people off and the original devs and companies see absolutely $0. In fact, if someone plays old games via emulation it could inspire official merchandise sales or sales for newer releases in franchises.
Nintendo is going after switch emulation on deck. This is a weak ass response to show support towards emulation when you choose some of the oldest games possible and then dont even emulate them on the deck.
The waffle house has found a new host
It's just the same as pirating but with extra steps, Nintendo doesn't give a shit about game preservation, us pirates do.
i use recalbox on raspberry 4 and on my old 2011 mac pro its the best
That poor controller….
As long as the company doesn't make individual games available as "reasonable" prices WITHOUT needing fancy new consoles, piracy should be legal.
Cries in not having Fair Use in Australia TvT
You could just download all games from n 64 and down 8 nes before this video is over with.
8:13 Anthony you are precious 😂
Nintendo. I WILL buy Super Mario RPG and play it on your systems.
It’s not my fault that you rereleased it on a terribly marketed system 10 years ago. That system is also dead btw!
uTorrent is a botnet
naw, nintendo can deal with "losing" 5 dollars, i just want to play the og super mario bros
buy switch port > ftp server > download to pc over ftp using a hacked switch > emulate
I always thought that using/downloading roms was perfectly fine/legal as long as you owned the physical copy of a game 😐
Note that the title for this is a lie. You are not legally allowed to make copies of games. But at the same time, it doesn't matter
In switzerland i can download every movie or game and everything else as long as i used it for my self and not sell it to others. So iam safe
„It came from the Internet“. A private server is also considerd internet
Oh no! Linus is talking about piracy. It's the end of Linus Tech Techs.
I have torrent client on psp
Nintendo don't even like people ripping carts from the game they'll sue you regardless its useless nintendo doesn't deserve respect just pirate the game
I treat my cib thracia 776 the same way :p I use a retrode to dump my snes roms though
🤣 Linus said asshat I thought he said asset
"Or emulate computers"…..

Come on Valve. Buy Nintendo and bring them into the 21st century.
"Do what you want cuz a pirate is free. You are a pirate." This is my life motto.
How dare a company disallow trying the product before buying. That's no way to consume! Save urself and live freeee
I view it as if you own it physically than you can download/pirate it.
If you want to try a game/movie/music you can pirate it.
If you like what you pirated then you buy it. If you don't like it after trying then no harm no foul.
It's been proven that pirates buy things they like and don't waste their money on things they don't know. Trying something is the best way to not waste your money and give a company money they don't deserve
11:12 Put some respect on Castlevania, I played that game so much as a kid and even after playing it on an emulator it's still one of my top favorite games.
not the hero we deserved but the one we needed
