Users don't burden the platform, "content creators" do. Saying users should deal with ads because they get free lunches is r*tarded because they don't increase the load on the website. These "creators" get to put us videos for free. reach millions of users for free, get a chunck of their ad rev, and they go get sponsorship deals off the platform, cutting off revenue to YT. "Creators" should be charged for the video bandwidth they use up, while users should stay free because their data is being used.

Linus – is there any chance of your company doing more features on Home Assistant and similar home SCADA technology. In the UK, my experience of Zigbee has been … pants! Any chance of some sort of "Home Assistant on a budget" for mortals (like us poor minions in the UK with little money to spare)? I think you not being CEO will give you far more chances to review tech and enjoy your new role a lot more 🥰
With regard to news, why not just choose a news publication that you feel is reputable and use their own app? I find since subscribing to the globe and mail that I'm reading less garbage (google pushes a lot of it, as you mentioned).
Never been to Costco but we have a Sams club which is similar, but they aren't dependent on the membership fee, its more just for a sunk cost fallacy deal so you shop there and end up buying way more than you realistically need to as far as I know. Some of their stuff doesn't even have a lower unit cost and is designed to be kind of a gotcha to people that don't research and min max it and the layout is designed to optimize impulse buying. You can save a lot of money and even get some unironically superior products if you know what you're doing but sams club specifically doesn't have to rely on membership.
Bruh if you can get something for free people are gonna do that. It seems people think life is all a game…so be it. I'll use every tool to get stuff without paying, if your company is losing money and might go broke because of this, bad luck you're losing the game.
You can pay for everything multiple times if that makes you feel better. If you rely solely on advertising for revenue you have a bad business model and probably shouldn't exist.
The biggest problem with YouTube Premium is that is makes the site distinctly worse to use. The continue watching pop up that you can't control, the additional invasive pop ups and prompts, and the ongoing modification of the website to try and force you to use YouTube through an app is super frustrating. I'd happy pay for Premium if it didn't ruin the site experience.
If anybody cheats a whale lan, lifetime ban + somehow blacklist them from watching the channel, IP and MAC ban from floatplane
There's three of us in my household my mom and dad have a Costco card and I live at home, apparently I no longer qualify even though I've been walking in and nobody has cared to look for the past I think two years we've had a Membership. And I'm not that big a drain I just buy my handful lunch things and I'm out. Apparently their idea of the "family membership" is 2 cards, I know folks with way more than one kid.
Then there's the putting things after the check out and checking your receipt on the way out paranoia that really what does it do?
Yeah, you do get "more" with YT premium than Spotify. But YT music isn't even included in my decision because I won't use it. I'm considering adding YT Premium but will not even consider switching from paid Spotify. If I did, it'll have to be for Tidal or Roon not YT Music

Here's an axiom for you Linus: If the user was stupid enough to purchase a 3090Ti at the prices they were going for when new, they are definitely stupid enough to spend $800 USD on something that looks cool but offers little or no improvement. The market for the those products (3090, 3090Ti, and that weird block) are virtually identical. It's let the buyer beware and never give a sucker an even break. That's how NVidia operates and so 3rd parties are following along!
If testing with a 3090ti isn't going to change anything, why make that video at all? You could tell from the specs it would never be a good price to performance product. Most of us don't watch baller parts videos because we consider buying it, we want you you to play around with it

All the ad time that I personally don't watch because of paying for premium, is more than the total runtime of shows I watch on Netflix. Get the family plan, and my nieflings aren't being fed ads either. Worth it… under the current internet and market conditions. You can debate those all you like, I'll pass.

Might just be me but I'd use YT Premium more if they had gift cards like Spotify and other Subscriptions (Gamepass, Ps Live and so on). I don't really want Companies Charging me Monthly right of my Bank when I for example don't use the service for a bit and until a bit ago I didn't even have a way to get a Subscription since you NEED something like Paypal so they can charge you.
You get 1-4 prerolls plus however many midrolls are in there plus sponsorship spots in the video plus merch plugs I get more adverts on a 15min youtube video than on tv and the content creator might not even get payed for those ads and you think the viewer is entitled im sorry but the viewer shouldnt put up with that.
