  1. UPDATE: I just uploaded a video showing how I customized my dashboard in Home Assistant! https://youtu.be/333OWiV7MkI
And here are some extra links to get you started:
The tablet and dock I'm using: https://amzn.to/3DFCq5Q
    Everything Smart Home channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/EverythingSmartHome
    My dashboard comparison video: https://youtu.be/Gz7ShWaojGc

  2. Another great use with a setup like this is use the built-in or 3rd party screen saver app to display photos when in standby mode (I use Google Photos). Then the tablet also doubles as a digital photo frame when not in use. I set it to play from a specific library I can add photos to from the cloud and thus my main computer, so it's super easy to rotate in new photos as I like.

  3. Is it possible to download this dashboard on an Echo Show 15 or only a tablet? Thanks!

  4. I kind of have something similar going with my Samsung Galaxy S6 lite tablet. All of my light bulbs are available with a smart home app widget which makes for One tap easy control of all my lighting and all the rooms. With network storage I have access to all my drives internal and external storage on all my devices like my Nvidia shield, Windows pc, other Android tablets and phones etc. Webview eyes make for quick and easy access for controlling downloads with qbittorrent and biglybt. That combined with all the network attached storage access makes for moving anything anywhere and to really make that use shine I have TeamViewer One tap launch control to gain remote access to my windows PCs. That actually works surprisingly well with an Android tablet. Very very cool.

Now this might not all be packed into a neat and tidy single screen but the range of controls available for all of the things and all of the drives and all of the smart home things etc. My tablet has really because the central hub for controlling everything in my home in these days.

    Yay for technology right?

  5. Is the tablet dishwasher safe, i have a few lying around and may need to use those during the holidays.

  6. Hey Reed, so with this tablet I can have my smarthome stuff on a dashboard via Google home and smarthings?

    Love your setup, full tutorial?

  7. Great video.. I love your videos. I always get IDEAS from them. that isn't what your doing.. lol..
eg.. You have a fire 10.1 tablet.. I'm not a fan of Fire tablets. more Android tablet fully opened kinda guy..
however, I like the part about the tablet being on a wireless charger..
I have tons of electronics.and wireless chargers.. I'm thinking of 3d printing a stand and taking apart a phone wireless charger, for the wireless charger in it. installing it into the 3d printed tablet stand. and see if I can make that work, instead of purchasing a fire tablet!! cuz putting it on a stand is really great.. ALBEIT my couch does have built in USB Ports I can just plug the tablet into?? But really like the wireless charging aspect !!!

  8. thx great video, I just installed Mushroom theme and card, and Cant figure where you change those settngs

    mush-spacing: 6px
    mush-rgb-state-light: 255, 255, 255
    mush-title-padding: 12px 12px 6px

  9. I like the idea of a mobile dashboard.
I've had a habitat set up for about 5 months now but I'm starting to play with home assistant for the fun of it.
Is home assistant the only Hub you have or do you have other Integrations?

  10. Is there a video on your camera setup that allows me to have a live widget? Or can you please tell me the camera and app combo you're using? Thanks.

  11. I'm just barely scratching surface of learning home assistance, but can i just use this with Fire HD Tablet? or do i need a dedicated server at home first, and point the tablet toward that?

  12. the smart display by your bed 🤔🤣

  13. Completely agree with your logic – as always 🙂

  14. Hey Reed, is that the 32gb or 64gb version…. Will either work well or is the 64gb needed?

  15. How did you get the mushroom light cards to stay within the same card? I'd like to add multiple mushroom lights in a single card.

  16. Wow I love this. Great work! Well presented.

  17. You sure can still use a wall mounted dashboard tablet as an easily accessible, regular old tablet if you mount it on the wall with a magnetic mount and a wireless charger. The magnetic mount has the magnet screwed into the wall and a small metal plate securely glued to the back of the table (or the back of the case if you don't want it glued to the device itself). Then you stick a Qi receiver onto the back of the tablet (plugs into the charging port) with a Qi charging pad on the wall. Want to use the tablet? Just pull it off the wall. No cables, no mess, easy peasy.

  18. i dont see a link to mushrrom iu

  19. I have a tablet wall mounted in the hall with full kiosk browser installed. Also one in the kitchen but on a cook book stand.

  20. Nice idea. I made something similar with a 10.5 Samsung Tablet and OpenHAB 3 as Home Automation System, running on Raspberry.
My tablet is wall mounted with an auto-recharge feature, to keep battery between 20% and 80%. It's implemented with Sonoff and Tasmota firmware. I made a video about it; I'd like to get your comments about it.

  21. I mean I would probably still have it on the wall, cause for remote use I have my phone, so…. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  22. @SmartHomeSolver how do you have the information set up for solar? It appears you may have tesla energy as well for your solar and I am curious what you did to get that data

  23. This basically what they have in all the rooms in the Aria Las Vegas—it was really nice to control everything in the room from do not disturb, ordering room service, everything

  24. I do believe this is the future, yes.

  25. Hi Reed,

At some point didn't you have a video where you used a door/window sensor with a pressure mat under your madras?

I have been browsing your videos, and can't seem to find it.

  26. Can you buy the docking station for a fire 10HD tablet?

  27. Hey, I want to buy an smartthings hub but before doing that I want to know if is any way to connect an 2.4g tuya switch to it. I've connected the smartlife account in smartthings app but I can see only the smart plugs. Thank you for your answer!

  28. Hey Reed, off topic but could you do a video on the best outdoor/indoor home security that's compatible with other smart home products -hue, brilliant etc?

I mainly use Google for my smart home devices, I also have Alexa, but rarely use it.. I like the idea of that tablet smart display, my kids don't use their old Samsung tablets anymore, would using these devises be a "budget" friendly option?

Although I like the idea of having a dashboard on a portable tablet, I personally don’t think it replaces the wall mounted dashboard. I like the fact that they are in a fixed location and can’t be moved and also that it is strictly dedicated to the smart home. A portable tablet that other things can be done on would quickly be just that at my house. I feel like I’m the only one who would care about the dashboard part. 😂

  29. Great video as always. I apologize for asking something I'm sure you've answered plenty of times. What streaming devices do you use? I especially liked the ability to send notifications to your TV screen without interrupting the show. I'm curious about all of your streaming devices and your favorite. Thank you

  30. If I will use home assistant anyways, Alexa or google?

    Hey there Reid,
I was wondering if you could give some reviews and also try out ORVIBO Smart Home systems as it is an option I am considering for my smart home?
    Thanks in advance
    Btw, I love your videos

  31. Here I was hyped for the pixel tablet when amazon already had this functionality.

  32. @6:15 I guess we are all ok with anyone looking at history, logbook, map, calendar, shoppping list etc. we need reals RBAC. This is a wth

  33. I was wondering if you could help me. I have a Hive thermostat and a ceiling fan. When the thermostat is turned on either automatically or manually I want to trigger the fan to come on 10 minutes later.
And then when the thermostat turns off and drops bellow 16°C (50°F) I want the fan to turn off.
Currently I use Alexa and IFTTT. But I can’t work out how to do it!!
Could you give me some pointers please???

I love your channel. Great video. I have a question, are there any wired smart home products? I think that wired products are more secured. For example, Why there isn't wired smart bulb? The technology to have enthranet over power has been here for many years. I'm looking for any wired smart home products.

  42. Love your videos! I am new to the smart home world and want to use smart bulbs but dont want to have to have switch covers. Is there no switch options out there to help with this?

  43. Dude I tried setting up a dashboard with a 8 it kept locking up.
    Saw your video
Amazon Black Friday sale and trade in paid total $132 with dock. 20 minutes to get all the Google stuff on and wow. This thing is light and fast.
Works just like my pixel 5
    Thanks for the review

  44. 😀 I am using it like this already more then one year. Yes it is good idea 🙂
